Thailand moves to make PV DC connectors and low-voltage switchgear assemblies mandatory — comments close 24 October

TISI has published draft ministerial regulations designating DC connectors for PV systems (TIS 62852) and low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies for PV systems (TIS 61439 Part 8) as mandatory standards. The drafts use the urgent-designation route with no transition period. Comments close on 24 October.

What the notice says

On 5 October 2026 TISI posted two draft ministerial regulations on its mandatory-standard designation page. Both announcements are dated 22 September, and TISI's pages give the comment window as 25 September to 24 October.

  • Connectors for DC circuits in PV systems — TIS 62852 (draft standard based on IEC 62852:2024)
  • Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies for PV systems — TIS 61439 Part 8 (draft standard based on IEC 61439-8:2026)

Both drafts rely on Section 17/1 of the Industrial Product Standards Act, the urgent-designation provision. Clause 1 of each draft says the regulation applies from the day after Gazette publication, with no transition period. The year in each standard number is still blank (25xx).

Business implications

Once designated, both products will need a TISI licence before they are made in or imported into Thailand. If the drafts pass unchanged, the requirement bites the day after Gazette publication, so unlicensed shipments could be stopped at customs. The move follows the earlier drafts covering six items such as PV panels, inverters and cables. Comments are still open, so scope and timing may change before the regulation is final.

If you supply connectors, combiner boxes or similar assemblies to Thailand, check first whether you hold IEC 62852 and IEC 61439-8 test reports. To ask for a transition period or submit technical comments, file with law.go.th or TISI before 24 October.
