What the notice says

On 5 October 2026 TISI published the principles and key issues of ministerial regulations that would make three types of charging equipment for category M and N electric vehicles subject to mandatory standards. TISI's pages give the comment window as 30 September to 29 October.

ProductStandardProposed application
AC charging cable sets via standard socket outlets (Mode 2)TIS 62752-2567180 days after Gazette
AC charging equipment (Mode 3)TIS 61851 Part 1-2567180 days after Gazette
DC charging equipment (Mode 4)TIS 61851 Part 23-2567One year after Gazette

All three standards were already issued by Ministry of Industry notifications dated 27 December 2024. The regulations would be made under Section 17 of the Industrial Product Standards Act.

Business implications

Once in force, manufacturers and importers will need a TISI licence before making or importing, and sellers may only sell licensed products bearing the standard mark. Notably, the scope reaches products sold straight to consumers, such as home chargers and portable charging cables.

If you supply chargers to Thailand, map your existing test reports against IEC 61851-1, IEC 61851-23 and IEC 62752 first. AC products get only 180 days to prepare. The proposals are still under consultation, so timing and scope may change. Comments can go to law.go.th or TISI before 29 October.

Affected products and work

  • AC charging cable sets for EVs via standard socket outlets (Mode 2)
  • EV AC charging equipment (Mode 3)
  • EV DC charging equipment (Mode 4)
